Founded in 2018, the magazine publishes portfolios, essays, reviews, and studio notes from photographers, writers, and printers working across the medium — from gelatin-silver darkrooms to the newest digital presses.

Each issue begins with a single photograph and builds outward: one portfolio, one argument, one review, one notebook. We believe a photograph is a physical thing that takes time, and we edit accordingly.

After Image is edited by a small staff and printed quarterly. We accept submissions for portfolios and essays twice a year.
